Church Devotion

Acrylic, mixed media and ink on birch cradleboard

36 x 24″

The Fifth Avenue United Church structure was built by devoted volunteer labor in 1912. The name of the church “The United Church of Canada” was renamed in 1925. Methodist congregations and Presbyterians “united” to form this new alliance. In July 1931, a fire destroyed much of the church. It was rebuilt and reopened where it still stands prominently on Fifth Avenue and Fourth Street today.

I’ve had many friends married in this historic church. It reminds me of churches in Europe with it’s famous pipe organ and it’s beautiful stained-glass windows depicting scenes of a yesteryear.
