I often was curious about why my mom never wondered where we were in a given day.

Just as we use to wander around the structures of the old Medalta site, we would explore the Hycroft site, including the warehouse buildings and the open access road to the railway tracks, formerly used to move supplies and finished products.

It was a spooky place to play hide-and-go-seek with the neighborhood kids. We could hide behind the mounds of broken ceramics and china or sandwich ourselves between the long narrow buildings in the back. When we grew tired of playing we would hunt for any structure or old box to stand on. We would take turns teetering on our tippy toes and peeking into the old factory. Once when I was peering inside, something fell and smashed onto the floor. I swore the place had a ghost.

After that incident, I was wary to go there again but I liked looking at the Hycroft company logo on the curved wall and remember wondering who took the picture of the First Nations man tipping his hat.
