Kananaskis Walkway

Acrylic and mixed media on birch cradleboard

11 x 14″

Living in Western Canada has its advantages, one of them being the proximity to the mountains.

We camped in Kananaskis for the first time a few years back, right after the major flood that ruined golf courses and walking trails in the region. I was in awe of the natural beauty, and the diverse colour of the lakes and skies as we stepped out of our trailer into the fresh mornings. We often skipped over the parks in this region for the trendiness of the Banff area. In comparison, the mountains in Kananaskis looked so different even though the two parks are close geographically.

The image used for this painting was photographed at one of my favorite hiking sites, untouched by the water and wood debris caused by the flooding.
